Presenting DC4EU at the 13th European Colloquium in Berlin

Around 135 experts and decision-makers from European Social Security institutions, ministries, embassies and international institutions from 29 European countries as well as from the European Commission attended the 13th European Colloquium hosted by the Federal German Pension Insurance (DRV Bund) in Berlin on 15 and 16 October 2024. The topic of this year’s event was Digitalization in social security: future perspectives for Europe’. Including in the scheduled 15 presentations, DC4EU partners Mathias Landeck and Thomas Ebbinghaus introduced the aim and status quo of the project focusing on how DC4EU plans to digitise and verify social security credentials such as the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and the portable document A1 (PDA1).

These digital credentials are stored in an eIDAS-compliant, certified electronic wallet, which improves the security and portability of personal and social security data.

A highlight of the European Colloquium was the practical demonstration of the DC4EU wallet showing the functionality and the use of the wallet and the verification of the digital credentials. Participants of the European Colloquium have been provided with PID (Personal Identity Data), digital PDA1 and digital EHIC in their wallets on their smartphones. These credentials have been successfully verified at the beginning and within the breaks of the European Colloquium by the DRV Bund representatives of the DC4EU-Consortium.

This demonstration ensured a broad distribution of the goals and benefits of the activities of the DC4EU-Consortium to relevant stakeholders in Social Security.
