DC4EU Social Security Use Case: Anna activating her EUDI wallet

Anna’s Journey

The Setup: Anna, a citizen in a vibrant European city, embraces new technologies to manage her social security needs. After registering for the DC4EU program, she downloads the EUDI Wallet app, which allows her to securely store her digital identity and access social security services across EU countries.

The Need for Verification: After completing her profile setup, Anna needs to validate her EUDI Wallet to access social security services. This involves ensuring her digital identity is authentic and securely verified, allowing her to receive important documents like the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and Portable Documents A1 (PDs A1).

The Business Context: Social security institutions require a reliable verification process to confirm Anna’s identity and entitlement to services. This ensures that she can access social security benefits seamlessly and that the issuance of necessary documents is efficient and secure.

The Verification Process (Making the EUDI Reference Wallet a Valid Wallet):

1. Anna opens the EUDI Wallet app and follows a national-specific workflow to validate her wallet.
2. The app prompts her to take a selfie for facial recognition, which is matched with her official photo ID stored in government databases.
3. Anna uses her compliant eID to authenticate her identity by entering her eID credentials, which are verified against the national identity database.
4. She uses her EUDI Wallet instance, and the PID provider verifies the validity of the wallet.
5. She receives a one-time verification code sent to her registered phone number, which she enters in the app.
6. Upon successful completion of these steps:

1. 1. The app requests Anna’s consent to store her digital identity. She reviews the information, understands the importance of her consent, and agrees to it.
   2. Anna’s digital identity is securely verified, and she receives confirmation that her identity is onboarded.
   3. She can now use her EUDI Wallet to access social security services and receive attestations from competent institutions.

DC4EU Vision: The verification process for social security coordination is streamlined and fully digital, utilizing the EUDI Wallet and the eIDAS 2.0 framework to ensure efficiency, reliability, and compliance.
