DC4EU workshop in Rome on the implications of new data models
On April 18th and 19th, 2024, the DC4EU WP6 Workshop convened in the historic city of Rome hosted by INPS, bringing together about 70 in-person participants and 20 online attendees. This interactive workshop was graced by the presence of representatives from the European Commission, underscoring its significance in shaping the future of digital credentials across Europe. The workshop provided a vital platform for stakeholders to engage directly with evolving project requirements and to contribute to the strategic direction of the initiative.

The workshop began with a series of updates on project management, offering insights into recent advancements and upcoming challenges. A critical session focused on the transition from the Business Blueprint phase to piloting, highlighting key areas such as stakeholder onboarding and the practical implications of new data models.

Participants were actively engaged in a User Journeys Simulation Game, using a demo wallet created by DC4EU partner Nikos Voutsinas and his team from WP4 which served as a practical exercise in understanding the #issuance and verification of digital identity and social security credentials within the project framework. In total, 23 in-person participants successfully set up and used the mock-up digital wallet and verified PID, EHIC, and PDA1 credentials, assisted by the core team members who were role-playing as police officers and healthcare workers.

The evening was capped off with a networking event, a guided tour in Palazzo Wedekind and a dinner, providing a relaxed environment for participants to discuss the day’s learnings and build connections.
The second day of the workshop opened with a session dedicated to the prerequisites for Large-Scale Pilots (LSPs), which are crucial for the project’s next phase. This was followed by a highly interactive session where participants were invited to explore and design LSP-related use cases in detail.

The outcomes from this session were later showcased, demonstrating innovative approaches and solutions developed by the participants. The day wrapped up with a strategic discussion on the next steps and future planning, setting a clear path forward for the project.

The workshop not only enhanced participants’ understanding of the project’s goals and processes but also fostered a collaborative environment essential for future success.
