DC4EU Madrid Workshop

Last week, November 14, 2024, a highly successful workshop was organized by the DC4EU project with Work Package Leaders, partners and members of the Advisory and Observer boards. The event brought together prominent professionals and experts in digital identity to discuss critical topics related to the DC4EU project. The day was marked by a series of presentations and discussions that addressed various technical and strategic aspects of the project.

The workshop commenced with welcome remarks from Alberto Crespo of ATOS, the host of the event, and Ángel Luis Martín Bautista, Deputy Director of Planning and Governance of Digital Administration at SGAD, who summarized the objectives of the Digital Credentials for Europe (DC4EU) consortium. Arturo Collins, the project manager of the DC4EU consortium, provided an overview of the project’s current status, followed by Nacho Alamillo from LOGALTY, who discussed the implications of eIDAS for DC4EU.

Klaas Wierenga (WP4 Lead) and Alex Grech (WP9 Lead) covered strategic considerations regarding trust frameworks, verifiable credentials, self-sovereignty, and interoperability. Lluis Ariño (WP5 Lead), presented large-scale pilots on the use case of education and professional qualifications. Gerd Bauer (WP6 Lead), discussed the large-scale pilot for the social security use case. Stefan Listrom (WP7 Lead), addressed the technological implications of the Interoperability Lab.

The afternoon featured a Q&A session, feedback from advisors and observers, and lightning talks, including contributions from Joanne Duklas, Executive Director, Groningen Declaration Network; Thea Sommerseth Myhren, CEO of Dwala, and Cade Diehm and Benjamin Royer from the New Design Congress. These experts presented innovative projects related to digital identity, offering new perspectives and solutions in this field.

The event concluded with an open discussion on the future of DC4EU and large-scale pilots. The workshop provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, gain valuable feedback, and strengthen collaboration among the various stakeholders involved in the DC4EU project.
